Anna Brewer, Centre Manager
What inspired you to become an early childhood teacher?
I have three children of my own and after having my first two boys I was fascinated watching them learn and discover new things. I decided to study to become an early childhood teacher and I absolutely love what I do. I’m very passionate about providing meaningful learning outcomes for the tamariki I teach and watching them grow in all aspects of their lives.
How long have you been working in this sector?
I have been teaching now for over 10 years and have experience as a teacher, team leader and manager. I have also taught student teachers who are becoming qualified within the industry and I get just as much enjoyment out of teaching and leading adults as I do children.
What do you love most about what you do?
The relationship you get to have with children, whanau and staff. I feel very privileged to be part of a child’s life and helping them learn the skills they will need throughout their journey.
What is your favourite time of year at the centre, and why?
Spring time! The weather is warming up, so we can start to have water play, the gardens are bursting with colour, and it’s a fantastic time to teach children about new growth, the season and sun safety. Everyone seems to get a spring in their step as the sun comes out and we look towards the holiday season.
